Word of the Year

I never really new this was a thing until I was in my mid 30’s. The first year I picked one I do not feel like it fit but looking back I guess it did. It was in 2020 and I picked Warrior. I guess it fit because I had to be a warrior for my family during a pandemic.

In 2021 I picked two words, Strength and Calm. I wanted to be strong mentally and physically and I wanted to have a calm presences with my friends and family.

I did not see these words come into effect until the last couple of months when our family was rattled with 3 deaths in about a 2 month span. At the beginning of the year I took the time to write out the definition of both words and find a verse that fit the “theme” as well. I have gone back and looked and read it several times through out the year.

This coming year, 2022, I picked the word Trust and the verse I picked is Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust: belief that someone or something is reliable, good, honest, effective, etc.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

Proverbs 3:5-6

I picked Trust because I not only need to trust God more but I need to trust myself. This year has changed my life and I see next year doing that even more. I am somewhat scared of these changes and I know I need to Trust.

Do you pick a word of the year? I would love to encourage you to at least think about it and maybe pick one. I am not going to say it will change your life or anything but it will help you focus on something.

I am no where near an expert on picking a word and finding meaning for life. I just took the time to sit and reflect on what happened through the last year and what my goals are for next year and that is how I picked my word. You can google “word of the year” and there are generators or lists to help you find one that will encourage you and remind you of your goals through out the year. Good luck and leave a comment of your word if you’d like to share and maybe encourage someone else.

Hi! My name is Ashley and I am a wife of almost 10 years and a mom of Irish twins Daisy (3) and Brady (2). I grew up in a small town and after college moved back to marry my Husband, Corey. I am not perfect at anything I do and will be the first to tell you I struggle with balancing life on the daily. Cooking and Baking are were I feel like I shine, but I enjoy learning and trying all the things.
